THE CHATHAM EXPLORATION HUB
My project introduces the Chatham Exploration Hub and suggests an observatory and planetarium space.
Its goals are to encourage lifelong learning, improve scientific knowledge, and inspire the next generation of explorers, scholars, and caretakers of the environment. The historical link between Chatham and the stars goes back a long time, with the study of constellations helping with navigation and understanding tidal patterns. These historical insights give us valuable ideas for predicting the future.
Additionally, preparing for Chatham’s future is very important. The educational sessions and workshops are aimed at secondary students, aiming to build their scientific knowledge and spark their interest in exploration and discovery. To support this, special study areas for teenagers will be provided to create a good learning environment.
One of the project’s challenges is changing the observatory into a multipurpose hall for different events, requiring flexible use of space. Working with the Chatham community will be key to making this vision a reality while ensuring it runs sustainably.
To make the experience more engaging, the seating inside the observatory will be made from recycled sea stones and shell waste. In the end, the project will play a crucial role in preparing Chatham for the future, promoting lifelong learning and scientific exploration, and serving as a source of knowledge and inspiration for future generations.

SOUVENIR
Haunted Chatham by Neil Arnold, 2012

Chatham is a town steeped in history and strange folklore, but much of its ghostly past, and present, remains unwritten.
For the first time ever the spectral secrets of this place are uncovered as we delve into ghost stories obscure and well known. The book features an array of haunted houses and shops, and sheds new light on classic local legends at locations like Chatham Dockyard and Fort Amherst. Many stories appear for the first time in print, with information gained first-hand from witnesses who’ve experienced the phenomena. Richly illustrated, Haunted Chatham is your guide to one of Kent’s most supernatural places.
“Lily of the Valley” Light Stick

Light sticks are essential for this experience.
The map inside the light stick shows where the ghost is and important clues, and the QR code on the light stick key chain contains this site and all the information.
THE DEVICE
I wanted to continue the title of ‘Night’ because I did a light stick during the souvenir project. So when I thought about what I could record at night, I thought of constellation observation, and a system that can observe constellations using a smartphone application and record them according to the angle on the record board was established.
